Access to Holy Communion Looks Set to Change Soon

In the United States, the abortion debate between the pro-life and pro-choice sides continues to heat up. This is especially true amid ongoing court litigation over the FDA previously approving the pill used to induce a chemical abortion.

The plaintiffs in this litigation want the FDA approval of the drug pulled, charging that it poses health risks to the woman taking it. However, those opposing the lawsuit believe the FDA’s approval should remain in place.

Now, a new facet of the abortion debate emerges as an offshoot of new changes to come for Catholic priests. According to Conservative Angles, these new changes will involve priests receiving clear guidelines on when to refuse someone access to communion.

Guidelines From Cardinal Raymond Burke

In the instructions from Cardinal Raymond Burke, tens of thousands of Catholic priests will know when someone is not eligible to receive communion. The same information is also going to be relayed to bishops within the faith.

This means Catholic lawmakers and others who claim to support the faith, yet also support access to abortion, will likely find themselves no longer having access to communion.

Rumors of this happening have emerged before, with Joe Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s names coming up. Both Democratic politicians have stated they are Catholic, despite their political support for abortion.

Some critics of Biden and Pelosi have already opined that neither one of them should be given communion by any Catholic priest, due to their refusal to denounce abortion.

More on the Story

Denying certain individuals access to communion has been branded as a measure to ensure the teachings of the Catholic church are treated seriously, rather than in a lackadaisical fashion.

There is also the view that if any and everyone is allowed by the Catholic church to receive communion, then this ultimately removes the teeth from the teachings of the faith.

Discussions from leaders within the Catholic community have also come up regarding federal funds used to pay for abortion in certain cases. Many in the pro-life community are supportive of ending this particular use of taxpayer dollars.

This is yet again a matter where two of the most well-known, left-wing Catholics, Biden and Pelosi, remain at odds with the teachings of their faith. In fact, Biden himself even downplayed calls to do away with taxpayer-funded abortions.

The weeks and months to come will definitely reveal who is eligible to receive communion under the guidelines provided.

What do you think about new changes regarding communion from the Catholic church? Do you believe said changes will have a positive or negative impact on the faith and its members? In the comments area below, you’re more than welcome to weigh in.
