Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, a 33-year-old primary care physician from Massachusetts, is facing serious allegations of indecent exposure and lewd conduct.
The incident reportedly occurred during a 10-hour Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu to Boston, where the doctor allegedly exposed himself and masturbated next to a 14-year-old girl.
Dr. Mohanty, who was employed at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, appeared in federal court last Thursday. He was charged with one count of lewd, indecent, and obscene acts.
This case serves as a stark reminder that even those in positions of trust can fall from grace, and it underscores the importance of vigilance in protecting our children.

The court heard that the majority of passengers were asleep when the young girl noticed Dr. Mohanty’s leg ‘bouncing up and down’ under a blanket next to her.
The girl, who was traveling with her grandparents seated across the aisle, felt ‘disgusted and very uncomfortable’ when Mohanty pulled away the blanket, exposing himself and ejaculating.
She moved to another seat when Mohanty left to clean himself off in the restroom but only disclosed the incident to her family after landing in Boston.
When confronted by FBI agents at his Cambridge home, Dr. Mohanty appeared visibly nervous. His hands and voice trembled as he denied the allegations, claiming he had no recollection of the incident.
However, court documents suggest that Mohanty and the young girl had been seen holding hands and cuddling earlier in the flight, raising further questions about his conduct.
Following his arrest, Dr. Mohanty was released on bail with strict conditions. He was ordered to stay away from individuals under 18 and any locations where they might congregate. If convicted, he faces up to 90 days in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

First Assistant US Attorney Joshua Levy is leading the case against Mohanty.
In a strong statement, Levy promised to hold child abusers accountable, emphasizing everyone, especially children, has the absolute right not to be exposed to lewd conduct while traveling.
He warned those engaging in such illicit behavior would be caught and held accountable, regardless of where the offense occurs.
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where Dr. Mohanty was employed, confirmed that he is currently on leave. A spokesperson for the hospital told Boston.com that they are aware of the allegations but declined to comment further on personnel matters.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder that even those in positions of trust can betray that trust in the most shocking ways. It underscores the need for constant vigilance and stringent measures to protect our children from such predators.
